Showpeople

I realize I've been relatively mute for awhile. I have decided, rather than give another exhausting update on my life, to morph my blog into a TONY blog.

So, it is time for the American Theatre Wing's 2007 Tony Award Ceremonies, right from Radio City Music Hall (which I, rather unfortunately, had to trudge through dirty, nasty, snowy sludge and pass every day as I went to the College Art Conference in February.

While Phillip and I can't say that we've seen any of the Tony nominees this year (it's much more cost-effective to see all of the best picture noms), but I can say that this is the first TA that I can enjoy after seeing an actual show on Broadway (that being Spamelot, the Monty Python musical which is so very delightful). Between my readership of the New Yorker and Jean and Brooks (since Jean works for Disney Broadway, shows are an integral part of their life which we are priveleged enough to hear all about), I feel like I know at least a little bit about the shows.

Here's what I love most about the TA—the people are so altruistic. They love what they do, they love the theater community of which they are a part, and they truly appreciate the work done by their peers. It's more of a lovefest than a race to the egotistical finish line.

So far, the big winner (and it shows, as every in the crowds faces and whistles can attest) has been Spring Awakening, the adaptation of a nineteenth century play about Austrian teenage angst and sexuality. I personally am very interested in Curtains. More to come.
